Snowfall cancels World Cup Downhill training in Lake LouiseWorld Cup downhill training at the Bombardier Winterstart in Lake Louise, Canada has been canceled this morning after the area received about four inches of snow over night. At 9:00 a.m. local time heavy flakes continue to fall.

“We decided to cancel the second training run due to heavy snow fall and continuing snow fall,” said Chief of race Darrell MacLachlan. “We were told that there was another major system coming through so there was no chance that we could make the race track safe enough for the athletes do go down. We will be working day and night to make sure that the track will be ready for tomorrow’s last training run. We will make another decision tomorrow morning.”

Today’s training was to be the second official training run of the season after Switzerland’s Didier Cuche had yesterday’s fastest time. There is another training run scheduled for tomorrow before Saturday’s race. Continued light snowfall is expected through Friday morning.
