Lindsey Vonn spotted at Copper mentoring former teammates
Lindsey Vonn spent some time coaching her former teammates, several of whom have looked up to her since childhood, at Copper Mountain this week. The dedication of Vonn’s time and energy has not gone unnoticed by these women. The level of respect they have for her is clear in their reflections on social media. As the winningest female racer of all time, Vonn has a unique understanding of the sport and the challenges these girls face as they prepare for the season ahead.
“Being back on the mountain with my teammates yesterday was awesome,” Vonn wrote. “I enjoy staying in touch with them, mentoring them, even more since I retired and to be able to be on hill with them during training and help them in person was a special and rewarding moment. We aren’t racing together now but we are still teammates. Can’t wait to cheer for them this year and watch them crush it at the Olympics.”
It wasn’t just the Americans who were enjoying some time on the hill with the former racer. New Zealander Alice Robinson and Italian speed queen Sofia Goggia also chimed in with posts about the encounter.
“Not everyday your childhood ski idol comes up to your speed training to give you tips,” Robinson said. “Lindsey thank you so much for taking the time today to come up to my training and sharing your knowledge and advice, letting me ask you a ton of questions learning from the speed queen little bit of a full circle moment 10 years ago was asking for a picture in little old NZ and now I’m representing @lindseyvonnfoundation.”
