Australia, Canada battle it out at Whiteface HomeLight Foundation Series NorAms

Feb 10, 2022

Day 2 of the men’s GS HomeLight Foundation Series NorAm at Whiteface Mountain was once again a battle between Australia’s Harry Laidlaw and Canada’s Riley Seger. For a second day in a row it was Laidlaw taking home the top spot with a total time of 2:00:19, another dominating finish 0.85 seconds ahead of Seger in second.

After winning Tuesday, as the first Australian to do so in 20 years, Laidlaw laid down the fastest first run ahead of Montana State Junior Seger. Seger was 0.26 seconds behind Laidlaw yet fell off the pace in his second run with sixth-fastest time.

“I had no idea of that stat,” said Laidlaw referencing the 20-year gap. “But I’m super happy and looking forward to the rest of the season and see what we can do.”

Third place went to former U.S. Ski Team member Brian McLaughlin. Now representing Global Racing, McLaughlin was sitting in 12th after his first run. His dominating second run time of 1:01:61 was the fastest on the course, moving him up nine places and onto the podium in third.

The NorAm races have drawn attention across the world, attracting many who fell short of Olympic’s to compete head to head.

“You’re a hero,” wrote Great Britain national team member Charlie Raposo. “Two NorAm wins in two days with some mega point scores. We’ve been at this for a long time and seeing you finally get what you deserve was awesome.”

The men kick off an abundance of racing Thursday with two super-Gs and two alpine combined scored races.
