Down Time Episode 10: Away from it all

Jan 22, 2008

When the driving snows of winter turn to a dribble and the final races of the season have been run, the world’s best ski racers scatter like the wind to all corners of the globe for rest and relaxation, some down time, if you will.
“April is a great month. That’s the month where you can feel content with how you did last season,” said Kaylin Richardson.
“When we’re done with nationals, I’m ready to go home or somewhere warm — as far away from ski racing as I can get,” adds T.J. Lanning. Both Richardson and Lanning relish the lifestyle being a ski racer affords them, and getting some relaxation in the off-season is a nice perk of the job. Although, as Richardson points out, they work nearly year-round to get stronger and refine their technique. “It’s a long season, and by the end of it you’re ready to take your skis off,” Richardson says.
See how Kaylin and T.J. spent the better part of their off-seasons in 2007. Ski Racing and Rival Films present episode 10 of the 16-week series Down Time: The Summer Sessions.
