Masters group one racers claimed the top five spots as Ben Green took the race by almost three and a half seconds. Fighting it out for the next four slots were Luke Hiebert, Brad White, Maxine Masse and Adam Weiss.
The youngsters took advantage of Super Seed honors — the top 10 racers, regardless of age, got the opportunity to race a much cleaner course than they normally negotiate. The entire Super Seed field raced just ahead of the menʼs class eight group. Rounding out the top ten was Bill Zimmerman, Terrence Fogarty, Mark George, and New York racers Pepi Neubauer and Bob Andree.
Jessie McAleer took both runs from Carolyn Beckedorff in the womenʼs race. Class one newcomer Lisa Marien held off class six women Margaret Vaughn and Stacey Weston. Lisa Zimmerman and Barb Brumbaugh traded race runs for class five honors, with Tamsen Snyder and Patty Lane in a close heat for eighth and ninth overall. Barb Settel closed out the top ten for the women.
On a brutally cold day at Stratton the following day, Masse left nothing to chance and took race honors by winning both runs. Hiebert cleaned up his second run to pass class six Bob Hill. Scott Hardy held on for fourth, pushing Weiss back to fifth. Jim Nash took both runs from Neubauer, with Alex Gadbois, Jerome Guerard and Steve Masur rounding out the top ten for the men.
Beckedorff took race honors for the women, winning both runs with Tracey Beckerman a distant second. Marien held off influenza survivor Kerry Brennan for third. Sharon Caggianelli-Vinsick held off Nadine Price, Vaughn and Zimmerman for a strong top five showing. Julia Horgan and Weston closed out the top ten.
Bob Hill and Carolyn Beckedorff took the Annual Janeway Cup honors (male and female racers over the age of forty).
