Toko develops fluorine free race waxes
TOKO has been working on developing fluorine-free solutions for race waxes for well over a decade. Fluorine waxes present both health and environmental risks and it is for these reasons the FIS has voted to ban their use in the future. However, the lack of a reliable testing method continues to delay the implementation of the fluorine restriction.
The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) announced (August 11, 2022) that a full fluorine wax ban implementation will be postponed to the 2023/2024 season to allow additional time for the further refinement of the fluorine testing device and to define the procedures to protect the integrity of FIS competitions.
TOKO, however, is leading the way in developing even better wax solutions. Toko is working to make the new generation of fluorine-free waxes even better than their existing fluorinated cousins. Their progress has been significant.
Toko Head Chemist Stefan Jung is a leading expert in developing race waxes. In this podcast, he shares some of his successes and failures experienced during the development of the new generation of wax. Additionally, he explains the current status of the TOKO fluorine-free race waxes and discusses the superior fluorine-free future.
