Feb 13, 2009

PARK CITY, Utah (Feb. 12) – Six young alpine ski racers have been named to take part in the 48th running of the Trofeo Topolino ski games in Italy, the most prestigious children’s ski event in the world. The athletes were selected by the U.S. Ski Team’s National Development System and represent U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association clubs from coast-to-coast. Trofeo Topolino will take place Feb. 20-21 at Panarotta in Levico Terme, Italy.

It is the 13th consecutive year a U.S. team has taken part in Trofeo Topolino. Past champions include the U.S. Ski Team’s double World Champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) and rising speed star Andrew Weibrecht (Lake Placid, NY).

Over 40 nations are expected to take part with the slalom on Feb. 20 and giant slalom Feb. 21. The U.S. team will depart Feb. 13 for advance training and an opportunity to forerun the Italian national championships.

“Topolino is an exciting introduction to international ski racing for these club athletes,” said USSA Rocky/Central Regional Director Terry DelliQuadri, who will lead the group along with Jake Manseau of New Hampshire’s Holderness School and Alice Black of the Aspen Valley Ski Club. “It’s a great competition but also fun for the athletes and their families.”
