Feb 19, 2009

Austrian racer Michaela Kirchgasser was injured today when she crashed while training in Tarvisio, Italy. According to worldcuptarvisio.com the 24-year-old lost her balance just before a jump. She was taken to the Hospital of Villach where an MRI revealed an infraction in her femur and torn meniscus in her left knee. Kirchgasser will be sent to Innsbruck Hospital where she will have another MRI in order to decide if she needs surgery. The injury will, most likely, cost the racer the rest of the season.

Kirchgasser’s results this year include a second-place finish in the GS at Cortina d’Ampezzo, a fourth in the Altenmarkt super combined and fifth in the Val d’Isere World Championship GS.
