Simard had previously won the 2002 slalom title and 2005 GS crown. Monday she came back from a first run deficit for her third championship.

“My second run was really solid,” she said. “This is a great note to end the season on.”

Simard, born in Montreal and residing in Val Morin said it was a treat to ski back home in Quebec and take the title at Mont Ste Anne, “in front of family and friends.”

She was third after the first run behind Marie-Pier Prefontaine who wound up third. Shona Rubens, the slalom and downhill winner earlier, placed second nearly a second behind.

“I haven’t been healthy enough recently to race,” said Simard of the annual Nationals competitions, “and so this year it felt really nice to be racing. And anytime you win, it’s an even better feeling.”

Simard lost the entire 2008 season after surgery on her left knee late in the 2007 campaign.
