So far the event has been challenged by blizzard, volcano and a heaby snowstorm. Friday fog entered the fray.
It was quickly determined this morning it would be difficult at best to get in two downhills and a training run, so the race jury elected to run the two super G’s today.
With a solid day of artillery blasts for avalanche control and on course clearing with snow-cats Alyeska officials felt like they had done everything possible to get the races in, but a persistent fog shrouded the course. After a myriad of schedule delays, the earlier scheduled race, the women’s 11am event, was canceled well into the afternoon. The men’s event, scheduled at 2:30pm, was postponed about five o’clock.
