Austria drops three alpine men

May 08, 2009

The Associated Press reported today that the Austrian National Alpine Team dropped three male skiers from their roster going into this Olympic year.

The team has cut Christoph Gruber, Hannes Reichelt and Georg Streitberger. They will not be replaced, as the men’s team will now have only 13 members. the Austrian Ski Federation said Friday.

The trio struggled this season though Guber has tallied five career World Cup wins, while Reichelt owns four and Streitberger had one. Out of the three Reichelt had the best result this season with a third-place finish at a giant slalom in Alta Badia, Italy.

There were no changes to Austria’s nine-member women’s team.
