NAASF to award ski racing scholarship

Aug 06, 2009

The North American Airline Ski Federation Foundation (NAASF) is accepting applications for a scholarship aimed at aiding JII and JIV ski racers. It is anticipated that $2-3000 in awards will be divided between two recipients.

The North American Airline Ski Federation Foundation was created in 1983 to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships, grants or gifts to deserving individuals and organizations involved in competitive skiing programs.

Throughout the years the North American Airline Ski Federation has raised over $120,000 to benefit junior ski programs, junior skiers, and many individual charities through its foundation. NAASF raises these funds at the airline ski weeks held throughout the winter at various ski areas. This fund raising is an important part of the activities at each airline ski week.

According to the scholarship website, applicants must “demonstrate superior academics, dedicated competitive spirit, community citizenship and financial need.”

The deadline for application is September 15. To submit an application click here.

Interested competitors should be prepared to submit the following:

   1. NAASF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

2. A sealed letter from the school principal that addresses citizenship, work ethic, peer relationships and an official grade transcript for the most recent school year.

3. A sealed letter from the coaching staff addressing commitment, potential, ability and desire.

4. An official printout that shows all competitions entered and results for the most recent season. If no computerized document exists in your region, your ski coach should submit the same information. (Please limit result input to two pages. The USSA results report is preferred)

5. A copy of IRS form 1040 or short form for the supporting family showing adjusted gross income. (Do not include other tax forms.)

6. A recent ski-racing photo is very helpful.
