The 2015 World Championship super G silver medalist, Dustin Cook, suffered a knee injury while training in Pitztal, Austria, on Wednesday and has withdrawn from the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup season opener scheduled in nearby Soelden on Sunday.

During a giant slalom training run on the glacier, the Canadian crashed and sustained ligament damage to his right knee that will require surgery. He was the second World Cup regular to suffer a knee injury on Wednesday that requires surgery after Austrian Anna Fenninger sustained a season-ending knee injury while training in Soelden.

Further information on Cook’s status will be updated as it is confirmed.
