On March 10th Åre, Sweden hosted the final regular season slalom of the 2024 season. It would witness the injury return of Stifel US Ski Team's Mikaela Shiffrin. Even if Germany's Lena Dürr could find a way to win, Shiffrin would only need 13 points to clinch the season's slalom title. However, In her first race back since January 26th, Shiffrin did much more. The first run leader ended the day with her career 96th victory, her 59th in slalom. On the hill, she won her first World Cup and clinched the 2024 slalom title, her eighth.

Mikaela Shiffrin, the superstar of the Stifel US Ski Team, is set to make her much-anticipated return to World Cup competition this weekend in Åre, Sweden. Unfortunately, the Giant Slalom (GS) is unlikely to be part of her Åre program due to minimal training opportunities. However, fans can still look forward to seeing her compete in the Slalom on Sunday, March 10th.

Since Mikaela Shiffrin's fall in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, on January 26th while racing downhill, injuries have sidelined the superstar, but she is on the path to recovery. Here are the updates on her recovery journey.

The veteran Swede Anna Swenn Larson skied with confidence, attacking the steep long pitch and delivering the fastest time of the morning. Using a similar approach, the racer with the second-fastest time was delivered by Stiflel US Ski Team member Paula Moltzan (+0.14). The only other skier within a half second of Swenn Larson is Croatian Zrinka Ljutic (+0.42).

Despite her progress in rehabilitation, Shiffrin announced her decision not to compete in Andorra due to her knee injury. She reassured fans that while her recovery is progressing positively, patience remains crucial for her return to competitive skiing.

Seven GS races have already set the stage for a thrilling Kronplatz race. Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland leads the pack with 485 points, closely trailed by Italy's Federica Brignone with 460 points. The gap is a mere 25 points, making every turn on the ERTA slope crucial. Unfortunately, Shiffrin's and Grenier's crashes while racing in Cortina d'Ampezzo will mean they will miss the race in Kronplatz and likely eliminate them from the close battle for the season's GS title.

Now that Vlhová is out for the rest of the season, her lead over the next-best active skier is 228 points. It is her fifth slalom victory of the season. The woman has a fantastic feeling for winning; today, she used her first run advantage to perfection.

Mikaela Shiffrin is gearing up for the Flachau Austria Night Slalom on Tuesday, January 16th. However, her focus isn't solely on the race; it's also on her boyfriend, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, a world-class skier who recently faced a challenging downhill crash at the Lauberhorn in Wengen, Switzerland.

Today belongs to France's Cyprien Sarrazin. He earned his first World Cup super-G podium, a decisive victory. He is also the first French skier in 54 years to win a World Cup speed event in Wengen.

Poetically, Marco Odermatt has won his first career World Cup downhill and it was in his home country of Switzerland.
