The U.S. Men of the WCSL

The World Cup Start List (WCSL) is home to the world’s most elite alpine racers. There are no mysteries as to how athletes get onto the WCSL. Score a single WCSL point by either finishing top 30 in an alpine World Cup or top 15 in a World Championship or an Olympics.

During the 2021/22 season, 10 U.S. males scored world cup points. However, because Brian McLaughlin finished the season 61st on the GS WCSL, he didn’t create any nation’s GS start quota. To make an additional quota starting spot, you must be 60th or better.

The U.S. World Cup start quota for an event is a combination of the basic quota (1) plus the nation’s quota determined by the number of athletes inside the top 60 on the WCSL and any Continental Cup personal spots. The provided chart should help understand. Also take a look at the prize money, it certainly would be nice if it was higher.

Don’t forget this is the current situation, and expect it to improve during the 2022/23 season.

Again we supply the facts and let you come to your conclusions.
