Vonn reveals new goal in surprise Twitter Q&A

Last season, there was a tight race for the women’s FIS World Cup overall title between American athlete Lindsey Vonn and Switzerland’s Lara Gut. Either athlete could have taken it home with less than 30 points between the two of them in late February. After Vonn sustained a season-ending injury, Gut took the title with relative ease, and the world hoped Vonn would come back for 2016-17, hunting for the big globe once again. However, according to a new Twitter Q&A Vonn hosted during her day off in Chile, it seems that Vonn has some different goals for next season.

The shift in focus does not seem to be a result of her knee injury, however, since the all-time winningest female skier is back on snow and says that she is feeling great.

If she does center her season around wins, Vonn could focus her energy on her strongest events, super-G and downhill. The American is only 10 victories shy of matching Ingemar Stenmark’s 86 career World Cup wins record, and she could theoretically hit the mark this season. With the return of athletes like two-time overall winner Anna Veith to the circuit, there’s no guarantee. Before the World Cup season starts again, Vonn managed to fit in an unusual adventure. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, the skier took part in what some might call a strange way to test her nerves and an exciting way to get in front of a mainstream audience before returning to snow. The American entered the wilderness with survivalist Bear Grylls to test her resolve and eat some unusual cuisine earlier this summer. The end results just aired on NBC, and you can enjoy the full episode here:
