The Buck Hill Ski Racing Team is in search of a FIS Head Coach and Age Group Head Coach.  We are looking for exceptional goal oriented and performance driven individuals to lead their respective groups and possess unwavering commitment to the development plan of the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team.  Competitive compensation and benefits packages are commensurate with the skills and experience of the applicant.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours during winter season and off-site locations.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and kneeling in inclement weather.
  • Experience in working with the USSS national contacts, regionally, parents, and athletes.
  • Occasional lifting 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to travel to multiple training and meeting locations.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Required Skill and Experience

  • Must have strong collaborative and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills and the ability to work directly with co-workers, parents, and athletes.
  • Must be able to work successfully in groups with the Team and within the resort.
  • Ability to foster business relationships and work independently with outside organizations. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading camps, programs, and age groups.
  • USSS coaches and official’s certifications required.
  • USSS coaches license background screening or foreign equivalent.
  • Valid Passport and Driver’s License. 

About the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team

The Buck Hill Ski Racing Team is strong, boasting a solid foundation of athletes from U10 through FIS, and membership growth during the past three years.  The Buck Hill Ski Racing Team has a rich history continues to develop top nationally ranked athletes and athletes which continue to successfully compete at the collegiate, national, and international levels.  

The Buck Hill Ski Racing Team is owned and operated by Buck Hill Inc. and is supported by a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (Club) which was created as an entity to provide financial support to athletes and training infrastructure to help ensure the very best support for the success of the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team.

In 2008 the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association recognized the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team as the Ski Racing Team of the Year and in 2014, it received the first Gold Club Certification in the Central Division and continues to hold this prestigious recognition.  

The FIS Head Coach is responsible for supporting resort staff, Program Director, management, and day to day operations of the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team, and is employed by Buck Hill, Inc.  The Hill provides a top-level training venue, recently investing in all new snow-making equipment and lighting to support continued training for the team.  

The Hill is a destination in the vibrant community of Minneapolis / St. Paul boasting four-seasons, culture, restaurants, top schools, surrounded by lakes, and a passion for snow sports.  This twelve-month salaried position will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer of Buck Hill, and work and will work directly with the Program Director and collaborate with other Directors within the organization. 

Summary of Duties

  • In collaboration with the Program Director, support the management of the FIS age group to create a strong culture within the team, families, and coaching staff.  
  • Works and effectively communicates with Buck Hill staff to help the Buck Hill Racing Team continue to excel and grow athletically.  
  • Responsible for the design, development, and execution of a nationally competitive and recognized FIS program with the goals of advancing athletes to higher levels of competition i.e. college programs and national teams.
  • Works directly and indirectly with staff to develop curriculum, goals, performance plans and overall development direction of the FIS program.
  • Provides updates and communications to membership.  Effectively communicates information to members and athletes to ensure information is widely communicated throughout the organization.
  • Develop and manage additional programming to enhance the overall performance of the FIS age group or programs.
  • Manage the purchase, maintenance and inventory of equipment and team assets.
  • Identify and manage future technologies, tools, and equipment to further the success of the program.
  • Manage, develop, recruit, and execute training projects and camps on an annual basis.
  • Position will be responsible for managing and leading the FIS age group as the Head coach. As the Head Coach additional responsibilities will include:
    • Identify and recruit athletes that are goal and performance oriented as well as athletes that can help further the progress and success of the training group.
    • Development of FIS calendar and recommended schedule.
    • Create, develop, and execute the FIS Performance Plan.
    • Coordinate, plan, and attend weekly and or weekend training and races.
    • Provide coaching support for all FIS races, qualifiers, and championship events.
    • Provide recommendations and support for athletes attending National Training Group camps and Regional Training Groups.
    • Attend, assist and coordinate with dryland coaches during Team dryland training sessions. 
  • Ability to design age-appropriate drills and skill building training environments.
  • Skilled in coaching all age groups and skill levels within the Team.
  • Maintain necessary relationship with CR1, Central Division and USSS to administer FIS program.
  • Develop and administer out of division budget, & schedule per Buck Hill and Board of Directors policies annually.
  • Maintain regular office hours per Program Director request.
  • Attend all Buck Hill Ski Racing Team camps regardless of FIS participation.
  • As the FIS coach, this position requires the utmost professionalism and exemplary behavior.
