2003-04 Western Elite Ski Team announced

2003-04 Western Elite Ski Team announced{mosimage}The Western Elite Ski Team, a.k.a. WEST, was announced November 15. The team, led by coach Randy Pelkey, constitutes the top Western Region athletes not on the U.S. Ski Team.

“While this is the largest initial group named to date, several very talented athletes have not been selected at this time,” said Western Region director Lester Keller.

As the USSA phases out its Development Team, the regional teams are gaining more prestige and attention.

“As always,” says Keller, “there is an open selection period until about mid season when an athlete may be added to the team based on significant results in Western Elite races or NorAm competition.”

Three of the named athletes, Andre Horton, Justin Johnson and Alex Shaffer, are competing to regain spots on the U.S. Ski Team.
