North American snowboarders dominated the slopestyle podiums today (Jan. 19) at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games being held in Innsbruck, Austria.

Canada’s Audrey McManiman took the women’s win ahead of  Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Arielle Gold with the silver medal. Australian Alexandra Fitch earned the bronze medal.

“After doing as well as I did in the pipe, I decided to go into the slopestyle course with a mellow feel,” said Gold, who also won a silver medal in the halfpipe competition. “I felt very chill and focused on having fun and doing my best, which worked because I had a clean run and got all my grabs.

Canadian Michael Ciccarelli pulled in the men’s gold ahead of American halfpipe gold medalist Ben Ferguson with the silver medal. Swiss rider David Habluetzel rounded out the podium in third.

“It’s pretty cool to have won two medals,” said Ferguson, a native of Bend, Ore. “But, honestly, I just came out here to do my best, and I’m proud that I was able to do so well for Team USA. Now I’m looking forward to chilling.”

Team USA also posted two fifth-place finishes in both the men’s and women’s slopestyle events courtesy of Max Raymer from Park City, Utah, in the men’s event and Indigo Monk of Manhattan Beach, Calif., in the women’s.

Ski and Snowboard Club Vail racer Alex Leever finished 11th in the men’s giant slalom today, which was won by Austrian Marco Schwarz. The first run of the the race was attended by American racing star and YOG ambassador Lindsey Vonn. The alpine racers will wrap up competition over the next two day with a women’s slalom tomorrow and a men’s slalom on Saturday.

The young cross country racers were also in action today with sprint races. Middlebury College skier Heather Mooney represented the U.S. in the women’s race finishing 24th.

Stratton Mountain School’s Patrick Caldwell finished fifth in the men’s race won by Norway’s Andreas Molden. Caldwell made it all the way to the final in the men’s sprint competition, where he finished 2.9 seconds behind the winning time of 1:44.1 to place fifth in the 50-athlete field.
