Heavy Rain Causes Kranjska Gora Men’s World Cup Slalom Cancelation
Kranjska Gora had everything ready for the World Cup Men’s races, scheduling a giant slalom (GS) for March 9th and a slalom for March 10th. Unfortunately, warm temperatures took a toll on the snow, leading to the cancellation of the GS. Instead, they planned to consolidate the snow to host a slalom, moving it to Saturday the 9th.
However, heavy rain poured down within the last 24 hours, causing significant damage. As a result, hosting any races became impossible. This turn of events means that the final regular-season GS and slalom races for the 2024 season are last weekend’s races in Aspen, the Stifel Aspen Winternational. Now, the invitations to the World Cup finals will be based on the rankings after the Aspen races.
The FIS issued a statement confirming the cancellation of the men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup slalom in Kranjska Gora (SLO) due to the extreme rainfall. Despite consideration, time constraints prevented finding a replacement solution.
