Employer Description

The Fédération québécoise de ski alpin, Ski Québec Alpin (SQA), is a non-profit organization (NPO) responsible for organizing competitive alpine skiing in Quebec since 1967. SQA manages and sanctions various development programs within the province’s clubs and teams. Its mission is to develop, support, and encourage excellence at all levels of the Quebec alpine skiing development structure.

Work Location

The federation’s offices are based in Montreal, Quebec. However, the candidate must be willing to travel regularly throughout the year.

Job Description

The Head Coach of the men’s team reports to the High Performance Director. In collaboration with the latter, the Head Coach is responsible for the development of the athletes of the Quebec ski team. Supported by an assistant coach and an integrated support team, the Head Coach of the men’s program must create the annual planning for their athletes in line with the federation’s mission, vision, and values.
The Head Coach actively contributes to the development of excellence in alpine skiing in Quebec through leadership, accessibility, innovative initiatives, and ensuring the effective management of programs and resources to provide optimal support to the athletes under their responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing the Quebec men’s team program and building a collaborative approach within the staff, athletes, as well as with the coaches of regional and national programs.
  • Support athletes and staff in the application of the annual program.
  • Clearly communicate expectations (mission, vision, values) to the athletes under their guidance.
  • Ensure the design of programs in accordance with the Athlete Development Model and ACA’s Long Term Athlete Development.
  • Create and implement ongoing evaluations of athletes to ensure they have a clear understanding of their progress towards achieving their goals.
  • Develop the budget within the financial limits set by the federation for the efficient operation of the program.
  • Provide reports at the end of each mesocycle to the management for presentation to the board of directors.
  • Communicate effectively with federation staff and the parents of Quebec team athletes.
  • Communicate and be accessible with all organizations/partners of the Quebec team (Canadian Alpine Ski Team, other provincial teams, regional programs, and clubs).
  • Plan to ensure an optimal balance between the athletes’ athletic and academic progress.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Quebec Team
    • Develop and implement the program.
    • Coach ethically and according to the federation’s values.
    • Clearly communicate expectations.
    • Use scientifically proven training methods.
    • Work as part of a team with partners.
  • Elite Development
    • Implement the Quebec Nextgen program.
    • Collaborate with regional programs.
    • Contribute to the strategic planning of elite alpine skiing in Quebec.
  • Administrative
    • Develop and optimally manage the budget allocated for the program.
    • Provide timely expense reports.
    • Communicate effectively with accounting to anticipate expenses.
    • In collaboration with the assistant coach, ensure the proper management of federation-provided equipment.
      • Truck, trailer (perform repairs/maintenance as needed).
      • Technological equipment, tracking equipment, etc.
  • Event Management
    • Adhere to registration rules for athletes’ races.
    • Demonstrate leadership and accessibility during races.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in kinesiology or a related field is an asset.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in managing a FIS team, including:
    • Proven results and progression of athletes.
    • Financial and human resources management.
    • Employee management skills.
    • Excellent understanding of annual planning.
