Bormio, Italy | Stelvio Ski Centre
BORMIO, Italy — The Stelvio downhill is one of the most feared tracks in alpine skiing, defined by its speed, terrain, and relentless physical demand. This preview includes the official Olympic start list, daily program, and how and when to watch the men’s Olympic downhill in Bormio. This Olympic men’s downhill brings together a compact but elite field of 36 racers from 17 nations, racing a course the top men know well — a rarity at the Olympic Games.
With no returning Olympic downhill medalists from Beijing in the field, the Stelvio is guaranteed to crown a new Olympic champion and an entirely new podium.

Six races, three different winners, nine different podium skiers, and six nations represented — a clear indicator that while Switzerland has dominated, the field remains deep and competitive heading into the Olympics.
Top Five — Men’s World Cup Downhill Standings (after Crans-Montana)
- 1st 🇨🇭 Marco Odermatt (SUI, 1997) — 510 pts
- 2nd 🇨🇭 Franjo von Allmen (SUI, 2001) — −115
- 3rd 🇮🇹 Dominik Paris (ITA, 1989) — −214
- 4th 🇮🇹 Giovanni Franzoni (ITA, 2000) — −286
- 5th 🇮🇹 Florian Schieder (ITA, 1995) — −291
As strong as Switzerland and Italy have been this season, it is equally notable how much Austria has struggled, a tension underscored by Vincent Kriechmayr opting to train over racing at the last World Cup in Crans-Montana as the Olympic downhill approached.

United States — Men’s Downhill (season WC DH rank, bib order)
- Bib 3 — 🇺🇸 Bryce Bennett (UT, USA, 1992) — Team Palisades Tahoe — season WC DH rank 32
Olympics: 2018, 2022 - Bib 13 — 🇺🇸 Ryan Cochran-Siegle (VT, USA, 1992) — Mt. Mansfield Ski Academy / Cochran’s Ski Club — season WC DH rank 8

Olympics: First Olympics
Cochran-Siegle’s podiums in Beaver Creek and Crans-Montana reinforced the United States as a legitimate threat in the Olympic downhill, while Bennett brings veteran experience on the Stelvio. Negomir and Morse both make their Olympic debuts, adding youth and depth to the American lineup.
Canada — Men’s Downhill (season WC DH rank, bib order)
- Bib 2 — 🇨🇦 James Crawford (CAN, 1997) — season WC DH rank 38

- Bib 26 — 🇨🇦 Jeffrey Read (CAN, 1997) — season WC DH rank 55
Canada enters with four point-scoring downhillers this season. James Crawford, fourth at the Beijing Olympics, is the only skier in the field who finished inside the top five at the last Olympic downhill, a reminder that Olympic experience still matters — even in a wide-open race.
