Jansrud back from injury and headed to Beijing
Despite the odds, Kjetil Jansrud, who injured his knee in December, will be attending to the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
The Norwegian has spent the last several months recovering from a knee injury he sustained in the Beaver Creek super-G less than eight weeks ago. The original prognosis for the injury included a six- to nine-month recovery, making his fifth Olympic Games appearance seem unattainable. However, he has already tested his knee out and has determined that he will, in fact, be able to compete in the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
“It is very gratifying that Kjetil’s injury was not as bad as first thought and that he can now compete in his fifth Olympic Games. We are looking forward to a larger and even more powerful team in Beijing,” said Norway’s Alpine Director Claus Ryste.
To make this happen, the 36 year old decided to wait on a knee surgery to try to recover fast enough for the Olympics. In an Instagram post, Jansrud says, “I feel lucky that my body has healed in a way that I couldn’t expect it would – the chance was there, but postponing surgery on a tiny hope isn’t always the right decision.”
Since his 2014 Olympic debut in Sestriere, Jansrud has had nine Olympic top 10s, four of which were podiums.
The Norwegians will now be sending 10 men to Beijing: Kjetil Jansrud, Lucas Braathen, Timon Haugan, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Henrik Kristoffersen, Atle Lie McGrath, Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, Sebastian Foss Solevaag, Rasmus Windingstad.
