Abplanalp returns to Swiss-Ski in development role

May 01, 2015

Stefan Abplanalp will return to Switzerland as a coach for the women’s C group following a three-year stint abroad as a World Cup speed coach first in Norway and then in the United States. Swiss development director Beat Tschuor has assigned Abplanalp the task of helping ensure youth development in the country.

Abplanalp, who most recently worked as Lindsey Vonn’s coach in her comeback season, is thrilled about the new role.
“I can bring my experience gained at the highest level to the base of Swiss-Ski. That suits me very well to contribute to the immediate and long term training of young skiers!” exclaimed the former downhill coach of Swiss skiers Dominique Gisin, Franzi Aufdenblatten, Nadja Styger, and Fabienne Suter, among others.
Abplanalp says he had offers from abroad but chose to return to Switzerland because of the new development director.

“I’ve known Beat Tschuor for ages. The opportunity to help advance young talent really attracted me to accept this position.”
Tschuor is excited to bring Abplanalp on board because of his extensive international experience.

“With the commitment of Stefan Abplanalp we bring a lot of international experience into the C squad and also show how important this level is to us.”

Abplanalp will begin work in early June with the technical skiers in the C group.
