Athletic Approach: The GMVS athletic program provides the opportunity for any hard-working and passionate ski racer to achieve personal athletic greatness. Our program is driven by committed athletes and coaches who promote the value of hard work and perseverance. Comprehensive programming including ski-specific dryland training, injury prevention through Functional Movement Screening, sports psychology, ongoing nutrition education and consultation, as well as in- and out-of-season on-snow camps provide students with every opportunity for success. In addition to ski-specific dryland training, students may also elect to play interscholastic soccer or lacrosse in the fall and spring. On-snow training facilities located at Sugarbush Resort, combined with our U.S. Ski & Snowboard High Performance Center provide students with some of the world’s finest training facilities at our doorstep.

Academic Approach: GMVS offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum intended to prepare students with the content knowledge and skills necessary to be successful at the collegiate level. In addition to traditional core courses, each academic department offers a variety of electives and select opportunities for advanced work. GMVS offers comprehensive Learning Services and ESL programs designed to empower students to become strategic and resilient lifelong learners. Students consistently go on to some of the nation’s top colleges and universities including numerous Ivy League and NESCAC schools – many continue to ski race while others choose alternate sports or focus on their studies. Across the board, graduates report being well prepared for the collegiate environment.

Training Facilities: KELLY BRUSH RACE ARENA – Located at the base of Sugarbush’s Mt. Ellen, the Kelly Brush Race Arena now offers athletes three dedicated and FIS homologated training trails with two private surface lifts and a chairlift to allow for continuous training on a variety of terrain. In 2019: Inverness and Brambles were connected to provide athletes with a more challenging GS and Super G training and race venue. NEW this year, the 62-year old Poma has been replaced with a state-of-the art T-bar that will cut ride time in half, giving athletes more time on snow, an edge in training, and an unparalleled training environment. Additionally, the KBRA has warming buildings at the top and mid-run with a clubhouse at the base.

NORDIC TRAINING– Our location provides unparalleled access to the best skiing and racing in the East. We train at a variety of high-level centers in close proximity to campus: Rikert Nordic Center, Ole’s Nordic Center, Trapp Family Lodge and Ethan Allen Biathlon Center, among others. GMVS owns a trail groomer and also a high-end Nordic trailer for waxing skis or resting at races. RACING PERFORMANCE CENTER—This U.S. Ski & Snowboard High-Performance Center includes 30,000 square feet of world-class weight and fitness training space, along with cutting-edge ski tuning, comprehensive video analysis, advanced physical therapy, locker rooms and all coaches’ offices in one central location.

Additional Information: For over 40 years, Green Mountain Valley School has been dedicated to supporting one very clear mission: fostering a life-long love of learning, sport, and adventure within competitive skiers. Our goal has always been to create an environment where students are encouraged to become well-rounded scholars and citizens. Founded in 1973, GMVS stands apart as a unique educational institution. GMVS is not just a school or a ski club, it’s a lifestyle. A lifestyle that celebrates the dual pursuit of rigorous academics and athletics all while cultivating a life-long love of learning, an adventurous spirit, grit, and determination – character traits that will prepare graduates to confidently and wisely impact the world. Living and learning at GMVS is about far more than just skiing or school. It’s about being a passionate and lifelong athlete. It’s about becoming intellectually challenged and eternally curious, being simultaneously independent and community-minded, persevering and doing far more than you think you can achieve. It’s a place, despite our focus on skiing, where you do not have to sacrifice your dreams of academic greatness, your passion for other sports, or your commitment to the arts. Here you can truly be “all you can be.”
