Green Mountain Valley School’s mission is to develop the whole student-athlete with “a life-long love of learning, sport and adventure.” The academy began with its first set of Winter Term students in 1973 in Waitsfield, Vermont, near Sugarbush Ski Resort. Four men passionate about ski racing founded the school to provide a “quality academic experience for competitive skiers.”

The academy offers year-long programs for ages from U14 to PG athletes. They emphasize a schedule that dedicates time to on-snow ski training to develop consistent technical and tactical skills. They also offer a unique G7 program, which introduces 7th grade students to ski academy life. This is an opportunity for younger athletes to attend from November to late March to determine if full-time attendance fits their passions.

This college preparatory academy is academically designed with a traditional liberal arts curriculum. The school finds importance in creating individual paths for students and offers traditional core courses and various electives.

For training, the academy trusts in the importance of “developing a strong athletic foundation and becoming the best you.” They lean towards a heavy schedule of on-snow training, so preparation is vital for the student-athletes. They have a 30,000 sq. ft. indoor training facility to progress the strength and conditioning of their athletes.
