ROME — An outsider has been appointed to lead the Italian Winter Sports Federation out of a financial crisis, less then a year after the Torino Olympics.
The Italian Olympic Committee handed the job to Riccardo Agabio, the president of the Italian Gymnastics federation.
Agabio was given a 90-day mandate on Wednesday to restore order.
Gaetano Coppi, who had led the winter sports federation since 2000, resigned in a surprise on Dec. 13, just as the ski season got under way. Nine days later, he agreed to return on a temporary basis, but then withdrew again.
