The Italian Ski Federation (FISI) has announced that Alessandro Serra will return to the technical staff of the Italian national team after four years of experience leading the Finnish team.

The 43-year-old technician from Cesana has a solid coaching tradition in FISI, beginning in 2002 when he was part of the European Cup group speed team and then passed through the group C, the Young Planet Ratiopharm, and again the European Cup. For the last few weeks he has been responsible for the men’s group of the World Cup giant slalom team, which currently only has Manfred Moelgg ranked in the first group in the World. Luca De Aliprandini and Riccardo Tonetti are ranked in the second cede and Giovanni Borsotti and Roberto Nani are currently ranked outside of the top-30 GS racers in the world.

It will be important for the members of the GS team to once again find the form that took the Italian men to the top of the World Cup a few years ago. Today’s GS requires tremendous technical ability and above all a lot of physical strength; it is important to have the strength to get the best possible speed out of each turn.

“The level of collaboration that will be established with youngsters from the European Cup and the youth group is in our best interest because it gives perspective and stimulus for those who aspire to the World Cup,” said Serra. “The plan for summer training has also been defined. We will start at the Olympic Training Center in Formia from June 20-25, then move to the Stelvio Pass from June 28-July 6 and for another seven days at the beginning of August. Finally, the entire team will make the trip to Argentine snow in Ushuaia starting August 22 for a whole month.”

The World Cup GS opener is once again scheduled for Soelden, Austria, on October 28.
