AFTER LEADING THE Canadian men’s alpine team to a record season, head coach Paul Kristofic has been awarded the prestigious Coaches of Canada Jack Donohue Coach of the Year Award.
Kristofic, who coached a men’s program that recorded 12 World Cup podiums and one World Championships medal last season, received the honor on Friday, Oct. 12.
“The award is a huge honor. I was really proud to first have been nominated and then actually win it,” Kristofic said. “The team was really consistent throughout the whole season and I am really proud of the effort put forward by all the athletes. Also I have to say that I have the best coaching staff in the world. All of the coaches and servicemen are so good, that’s the biggest key to success; the sum of all the parts.”
Kristofic, a coach with the Canadian alpine team since 1996, was in his first season as head coach of the men’s program.
He led a team that achieved two World Cup wins in the 2006-07 season, both by athletes earning the first World Cup wins of their career. He also had three athletes achieve the first World Cup podiums of their careers last season.
The Jack Donohue Coach of the Year award recognizes a coach for his dedication to the profession and the outstanding performances of his athletes during this past competitive season. The honor also recognizes a coach’s concern for fellow coaches, strong morale public image and philosophy of fair play. The recipient is selected by Coaches of Canada Board of Directors.
“World-caliber oaching is integral to Alpine Canada Alpin achieving its goal of becoming the best in the world,” said Alpine Canada Alpin Chief Executive Officer Ken Read. “We are working at every level to improve coaching and this recognition for Paul Kristofic showcases the excellence he delivers every day and our commitment to provide the increased human resources required to win.”
Established in 1985, Coaches of Canada is the national organization that represents the profession of coaching in Canada.
