Alyeska Ski Club Seeks U16 Head Coach for Alpine Juniors Program

Alyeska Ski Club (ASC) is seeking an experienced, passionate, and highly motivated U16 Head Coach to lead its Alpine Juniors Program and help shape the next generation of alpine ski racers.

Based in the mountains of Girdwood, Alaska, this leadership position offers the opportunity to work with one of Alaska’s premier alpine ski clubs while developing athletes in a high-performance environment centered on long-term athlete development, teamwork, and excellence.

The U16 Head Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the U16 Premier Program, including athlete development, annual training planning, race preparation, coach leadership, program administration, and communication with athletes, families, and staff. Working closely with the Juniors Program Director and coaching team, the successful candidate will build a positive, athlete-centered culture that develops confident skiers, successful racers, and outstanding young people.

This role is ideal for a coach who thrives on developing athletes both on and off the hill, enjoys mentoring assistant coaches, and is passionate about creating meaningful pathways for athletes pursuing regional, national, and international competition.

Position Responsibilities

Athlete Development

• Design and execute a comprehensive annual training plan that promotes long-term athlete development.
• Develop technical, tactical, physical, and mental training plans for U16 athletes.
• Incorporate free skiing, skill progressions, and modern coaching practices into daily training.
• Coordinate dryland programming and collaborate with sport science professionals including athletic trainers, nutritionists, and sport psychologists.
• Create individualized competition schedules based on each athlete’s development goals.
• Conduct preseason, midseason, and postseason athlete evaluations with goal setting and performance feedback.
• Support athlete equipment selection, maintenance, and manufacturer relationships.
• Assist qualified athletes with equipment sponsorship opportunities.
• Oversee rehabilitation plans for injured athletes.
• Promote academic success while athletes travel for training camps and competitions.
• Monitor athlete attendance, progress, and divisional qualification opportunities.

Program Leadership

• Lead and manage the U16 coaching staff while fostering a collaborative, positive team culture.
• Supervise assistant coaches during daily training, camps, and competition travel.
• Ensure athlete safety remains the highest priority during all club activities.
• Develop monthly and weekly training plans, lane requests, and seasonal schedules.
• Coordinate race entries, divisional selections, applications, petitions, and event logistics.
• Maintain program equipment and recommend future equipment purchases.
• Assist with race organization, course preparation, course setting, and officiating at ASC-hosted events.
• Promote athlete retention and assist in recruiting outstanding coaching staff.

Communication & Athlete Support

• Build strong relationships with athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers, and ASC staff.
• Clearly communicate program expectations and seasonal objectives.
• Assist with annual parent and athlete orientation meetings.
• Provide guidance to families regarding competition schedules, budgets, travel, and athlete development.

Administration

• Assist in developing and managing the annual U16 program budget.
• Coordinate travel logistics including lodging, transportation, flights, lift tickets, and training camps.
• Prepare project budgets and reconcile expenses with club administration.
• Track coach attendance and assist with program administration.
• Contribute to coach education initiatives and ongoing program evaluation.

Leadership Expectations

• Foster a culture built on respect, professionalism, accountability, and athlete well-being.
• Serve as a positive role model for athletes and staff.
• Stay current with U.S. Ski & Snowboard rules, coaching education, and best practices.
• Promote healthy lifestyles and positive team culture across the Juniors Program.

Desired Qualifications

• Extensive alpine ski racing coaching experience, preferably with U16 or FIS-level athletes.
• Strong knowledge of long-term athlete development and modern coaching methodologies.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Experience planning seasonal training programs and managing competition schedules.
• Ability to mentor assistant coaches and collaborate within a high-performance coaching staff.
• Current U.S. Ski & Snowboard coaching certifications (or ability to obtain).
• CPR, First Aid, and SafeSport certification (or ability to obtain).
• Willingness to travel extensively throughout the ski season.
