The Austrian press reports that 47-year-old Andreas Evers has been appointed as a speed coach by the Liechtenstein Ski Federation (LSV) to oversee Tina Weirather and additional athletes beginning in May.

The popular and well-liked coach’s most recent World Cup-level contract was terminated by the U.S. Ski Team last spring after Evers was convicted on money laundering charges in his home country and sentenced to serve four months in jail.

Evers is looking forward to a fresh start in his new role with Liechtenstein.

“I have spoken with the LSV about the situation and from the outset have been open, informing them of my background and disclosed everything. I am very glad to know the LSV now enables me a new beginning,” Evers told the Austrian press.

Weirather’s 2014-15 season was a rollercoaster ride of peaks and valleys. She accumulated four total podiums and a victory in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen downhill, but her sights were set higher in the World Championship season.

Liechtenstein is now actively searching for a new president for its ski federation after the re-election of long-time president Andy Wenzel was deemed unacceptable by ruling of the LSV Council, which allows an individual to serve a maximum of four two-year terms.

Wenzel took over the presidency of the LSV eight years ago and has led it to its current state of financial and athletic success. The search for a suitable successor has already started and is being overseen by a working group of the LSV Council. A new president will be elected in June at the next Assembly of Delegates of the LSV.
