Announcements from the FIS autumn meetings

The Alpine Executive Board held two meetings in Zurich: firstly to prepare the sub-committees meetings and then to gather and summarize the various discussions and proposals before the Alpine Committee Meeting.

At the spring meetings in Cavtat-Dubrovnik, Croatia, the alpine World Cup sub-committee proposed the possibility of carrying out a World Cup race in a technical discipline with only one run in the case of force majeure. After extensive consultation with various stakeholders, the proposal was withdrawn and there will be no change to the rules.

Due to a production factory accident which left one ski helmet manufacturer unable to produce the new helmets in time for the FIS Alpine World Cup season opening in Soelden, the new helmets with the obligatory discipline label will become mandatory as of the first downhill training runs in Beaver Creek for the ladies and Lake Louise for the men. Before that date, the use of old helmets will be permitted.

During the meetings of the working group coaches alpine ladies and men, it was announced that the course setters for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games competitions will be decided after the giant slalom race in Maribor, Slovenia for the ladies and after the downhill race in Kitzbuehel, Austria for the men.

The newly appointed 2014/15 FIS Alpine World and Continental Cup technical staff (first reported by Ski Racing here) were presented to the various commissions and were warmly welcomed by the FIS family.

As the meetings wrapped up, attention shifted to the first races of the season only a few weeks away with the ladies’ and men’s giant slaloms scheduled for Oct. 26 and 27, 2013 in Soelden.
