The Arctic Valley Ski Team (AVST) in Anchorage, Alaska, is searching for a new Head Coach to lead its alpine program for the 2026–27 season. The full-time leadership role combines athlete development, staff management, on-snow coaching, and community engagement at one of Alaska’s most accessible ski racing venues.

AVST operates under Arctic Valley Ski Area and the Anchorage Ski Club, a 501(c)(3) community organization dedicated to affordable, high-quality skiing and riding opportunities for Southcentral Alaskans.

The position offers a seasonal salary of $35,100 from October through April, plus a $6,435 summer stipend from May through September. Arctic Valley also noted the possibility of additional summer work at the ski area that could turn the role into a year-round position. Benefits include family season passes, reciprocal skiing privileges at other Alaska ski areas, reimbursement for professional certifications and dues, and lunches during ski area operations.

Leadership Role Focuses on Athlete and Staff Development

AVST’s next Head Coach will oversee the organization’s long-term athletic development strategy while maintaining a strong day-to-day coaching presence on the hill.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing athlete progression and development planning
  • Coordinating training venues, race preparation, and safety operations
  • Supporting parent communication and athlete recruitment
  • Managing TeamSnap registration and payment systems
  • Representing AVST at U.S. Ski & Snowboard Alaska Division meetings

The role also requires close collaboration with Arctic Valley Ski Area leadership and the AVST committee to manage budgets, training space, and race event logistics, including support for local events such as Merry Marmot and ShredFest.

Arctic Valley Emphasizes Community and Collaboration

AVST says it wants a leader who can create a positive, high-performing environment for athletes and coaches while fostering strong relationships throughout Alaska’s ski racing community.

The organization seeks candidates with:

  • U.S. Ski & Snowboard coaching and official certifications
  • SafeSport compliance and background clearance
  • Experience coaching youth alpine programs
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
