Are: Macartney subs for Sullivan in super G

Scott Macartney will replace Marco Sullivan in the men's super G at the alpine World Championships.

ARE, Sweden — Scott Macartney will replace Marco Sullivan in the men's super G at the alpine World Championships.
Sullivan was forced to pull out because of muscle pain around his ribs and will undergo an X-ray later Sunday. He may have pulled a muscle in his chest while coughing.
Countries are allowed to enter four skiers in each discipline. The world champion gets an extra berth.
Sullivan, Steven Nyman, Olympic combined champion Ted Ligety, T.J. Lanning and reigning champion Bode Miller formed the original U.S. super G squad.
Ligety, though more of a technical specialist, had been chosen to race the super G to give him more experience on the speed hill ahead of the super combi race. Macartney had not met the objective criteria.
