ARE, Sweden — A second day of training for the women’s downhill Thursday at the World Championships was a near repeat of the women’s super G podium results from two days ago.
Swedish star Anja Paerson had the fastest time, a full second faster than U.S. speedster Lindsey Kildow, who clocked the second fastest training time. Paerson’s time was 1 minute, 26.90 seconds and Kildow's time was 1 minute, 27.90 seconds.
Switzerland’s Nadia Styger came in third, barely behind Kildow, who won the silver in Tuesday’s super G.
Julia Mancuso was the only other U.S. Ski Team member to make the top 10. She finished seventh in 1 minute, 28.11 seconds.
Kirsten Clark of the United States clocked 1:29.33 to finish 22nd and teammates Stacey Cook was 24th (1:29.45), Resi Stiegler 28th (1:29.55) and Kaylin Richardson 35th (1:29.89.)
In Wednesday’s first day of downhill training, three of the four fastest finishers missed gates and were DQed, including Mancuso, who clocked the fourth-fastest time but missed a control gate.
It was the second day of training in which Paerson was the training “winner.” She finished third Wednesday, but the two racers faster than her were disqualified, leaving her at the top.
Renate Goetschl, who won the bronze in the super G two days ago, finished fifth in Thursday’s training run.
The women's downhill is scheduled for Sunday, although racers were also testing the course for Friday's super combi. Mancuso, Kildow, Stiegler and Richardson will ski for the United States in the super combi.
