Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is one of North America’s premier winter sports academies, where student-athletes pursue excellence in skiing and snowboarding while engaging in a rigorous college-preparatory education. CVA is seeking a motivated and experienced Athletic Trainer to join its Sports Medicine & High Performance team. This role is integral to supporting the health, safety, and performance of middle and high school winter sport athletes in a fast-paced, elite training environment.

Position Overview

Title: Athletic Trainer & High Performance Team Member
Schedule: Full-time, 9-month position (late August–early June + 2 summer weeks)
Location: Carrabassett Valley, Maine
Status: Salaried with benefits


Key Responsibilities

Sports Medicine & Athlete Care

  • Provide comprehensive injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation
  • Deliver on-site acute care during training sessions and competitions
  • Educate athletes on recovery strategies, injury prevention, and long-term health

Program Operations

  • Oversee daily operations of the athletic training facility within the High Performance Center
  • Maintain accurate documentation of injuries, treatments, and athlete progress
  • Coordinate referrals and collaborate with physicians and external medical providers
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, families, and academic staff
  • Ensure emergency preparedness, including AED readiness and action protocols

High Performance Integration

  • Collaborate closely with strength & conditioning staff and coaches
  • Contribute to injury tracking and reporting (including US Ski & Snowboard systems)
  • Support return-to-play planning and performance-based rehabilitation
  • Participate in interdisciplinary athlete development planning

Community & Team Engagement

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with student-athletes and staff
  • Participate in professional development opportunities
  • Share on-call coverage and additional campus responsibilities
  • Support “return-to-snow” programming as needed
  • Contribute to the broader CVA community

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Maine Athletic Training License (or eligibility)
  • BOC Certification (NATABOC)
  • First Aid & CPR certification
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-performance environment
