Attacking Viking breaks hand in Argentina
University of Denver alumnus and World Cup technical specialist Leif Kristian Haugen of the Norwegian Ski Team is having a tougher go than anticipated at his training camp in Argentina, as a day of skiing in Ushuaia over the weekend resulted in an unexpected trip to the local hospital.
Doctors diagnosed a fracture to the middle metacarpus of Haugen’s left hand which was treated on site. Never one to miss a day of training due to a busted hand, the Attacking Viking is anxious to get back on snow as soon as possible.
“Today’s mission find some moldable plastic and make a nice and slim cast for GS and SG training – This train ain’t stopping!” a clearly determined Haugen posted on Instagram.
Haugen, who finished 11th in the GS standings in 2014-15, is still expected to compete in the World Cup season opener in Soelden, Austria, on Oct. 25.
