Austrian racer Stephan Goergl has been lost for the season and possibly his career due to heavy damage sustained to his right knee in a super G training crash at Zauchensee, Austria. According to reports from the Austrian Standard, Goergl sustained damage to both the anterior and cruciate ligaments as well as a patellar tear. It is the first major injury of his career.
AUSTRIAN RACER Stephan Goergl has been lost for the season and possibly his career due to heavy damage sustained to his right knee in a super G training crash at Zauchensee, Austria. According to reports from the Austrian Standard, Goergl sustained damage to both the anterior and cruciate ligaments as well as a patellar tear. It is the first major injury of his career.
Goergl was airlifted to Innsbruck University clinic and was attended to by Dr Wulf Gloetzer, who suggested recovery would be between a year and a year and a half.
Goergl’s coach Juergen Kriechbaum noted similar injuries had been sustained by Peter Rzehak, who did recover and compete again, and by Michael Trit and Thomas Sykora, who did not.
