After further examination of a lower leg injury sustained during a training camp in Chile, Swiss speed skier Beat Feuz will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair a partially torn Achilles tendon in his right leg.

MRI results obtained upon Feuz’s return to Europe confirmed the suspected injury, and surgery is unavoidable for the speed specialist.

“An injury always occurs at the wrong time and this is certainly the case on the eve of the beginning of the season,” said Feuz. “I lose important weeks of preparation and I miss the first races of the World Cup.”

Feuz remains optimistic of a shortened rehabilitation since his Achilles is not completely torn. Doctors currently estimate a break of three months before Feuz can return to training, so he will miss the opening speed races of the 2015-16 World Cup season in Lake Louise and likely also Beaver Creek.
