BEAVER CREEK, Colorado — Marc Berthod was forced to return home to Switzerland on Friday after injuring himself the previous day in the warm-up for the men's downhill portion of a World Cup super combi.
The 23-year-old hit a rut on the course and sprained his right ankle, which prevented him from competing, the Swiss ski team said.
Tests done at the hospital in Vail showed bruising but no other serious bone or ligament injuries.
Berthod is the winner of one World Cup race, a slalom at Adelboden last season. He also finished third in the super combi at the world championships in Are, Sweden, last season.
