AMERICAN T.J. LANNING
broke his right hand in a crash during the downhill portion of Thursday’s super combi World Cup race.
Lanning will need surgery on Thursday night, he said in a telephone interview.
He had surged from 83rd to ninth in the previous day’s training run, qualifying him for a spot on the U.S. team’s deep downhill squad.
The 22-year-old has suffered through many injuries since joining the U.S. team seven years ago. Kevin Francis took Lanning’s spot in Friday’s downhill.
