Bode Miller set for Wengen training

ADELBODEN, Switzerland — As planned, Bode Miller will make an attempt at the January speed races in Wengen and Kitzbuehel this month. Miller is expected to start the first training run on Tuesday in Switzerland. He and the U.S. Ski Team staff will then evaluate his condition and make a decision about the races.

Miller hasn’t raced this season as he continues to recover from microdiscectomy surgery to alleviate back pain in November. At a press conference in Vail earlier this month, Miller said he was still uncertain if he would race in Wengen, Kitzbuehel or the World Championships.

The 37-year-old has twice won the classic Lauberhorn downhill at Wengen, which is scheduled for Saturday; however, he has never conquered the Hahnenkamm of Kitzbuehel, a task that continues to motivate him in these later stages of his career.

In Vail, Miller also said if his attempts at a comeback fall short this season, it might be a good time to think about hanging it up.

Ski Racing will have a full coverage of Miller’s return to training — and hopefully racing — from Wengen this week.
