Austria’s Marcel Hirscher won Saturday’s men’s World Cup giant slalom in Adelboden, Switzerland, in dramatic fashion, besting Norwegian rival Henrik Kristoffersen by 0.71 seconds and Frenchman Thomas Fanara by 1.04 seconds.
Kristoffersen held the lead after the first run by 0.12 seconds over Hirscher but was overtaken for the win by some powerful second-run skiing by the Austrian.
American Tommy Ford led the way for the Stars and Stripes in sixth place and Ted Ligety finished in 16th.
