Austria’s Matthias Mayer emerged victorious in the hotly-contested opening men’s World Cup super-G in Lake Louise, Canada, on Sunday. the 29-year-old reigning Olympic Super-G Champion laid down a winning time of 1:31.40 seconds on a postcard-perfect day in the Canadian Rockies.

Mayer beat out reigning World Cup super-G crystal globe winner, Italy’s Dominik Paris, by 0.40 seconds for Paris’ second runner-up finish in as many days. It was a tie for third place for the second day in a row as well as Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr and Switzerland’s Mauro Caviezel both finished 0.49 seconds off the pace for the first podium appearances of their seasons.

Top American honors went to Travis Ganong for the second day in a row as the California native finished in 12th place, 1.37 seconds back. Ryan Cochran-Siegle and Steven Nyman were the other Americans in the top 30 in 21st and 22nd place, respectively.

Canada’s Brodie Seger led the home team in an impressive 16th place from bib 57.
