The Canadians dominated Thursday’s downhill, with two men and two women in the top spots on the podium. Stefanie Fleckenstein won her second Lake Louise NorAm downhill in a row. Her Canadian teammate, Candace Crawford, secured second place, just 0.33 seconds out.
Lauren Macuga was once again the top American woman. Meanwhile, Ava Jemison moved into fourth place, one spot better than her result the previous day. She’s already looking forward to tomorrow, saying, “Conditions were amazing today thanks to all the volunteers. I was happy with my skiing, did what I needed to do. Had a sketchy moment over the jump but was able to hold it together and still bring good speed into the bottom and I am excited for the SG tomorrow.”
Americans Allison Mollin and Sophia Tozzi finished in ninth and 10th.
The Canadian men also claimed the top two spots of the podium Thursday. Jeffrey Read and Kyle Alexander took first and second place, with four of their Canadian teammates also in the top 10. Sam Mulligan, Liam Wallace, Riley Seger, and Jordan Tait finished in 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th, respectively.
Meanwhile, two Americans cracked the top 10, Spencer Wright finished in third, and Harrison Bridger in 10th. Wright shared more about his day, saying, “Today’s conditions were great and the track was running fast. I had a good mindset in the start and was able to execute my plan. I got a little rowdy near the end but kept the skis running. Overall really stoked with my first NorAm podium.”
The only European to break into the top 10 was Roy-Alexander Steudle of Great Britain, who finished in fourth, 1.42 seconds out.
