Beginning this 2006-07 FIS alpine World Cup season and continuing through 2009-10, CBC will broadcast more than 30 hours of coverage per year of FIS alpine skiing events, including the FIS World Cup from Lake Louise and the FIS Alpine World Championships from Sweden.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer this much alpine skiing coverage, more than double the hours we have aired in the past, to Canadians,” said Nancy Lee, executive director of CBC Sports. “We are committed to showcasing the very best in Olympic winter sports, and this ensures our viewers will be able to follow Canada’s best as they compete against the world, all the way to Vancouver.”

“We are very excited about CBC’s new four-year commitment to alpine skiing coverage, promoting Canada’s best alpine ski athletes as they compete at the Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup, on the World Cup circuit, as well as the fifth Alpine World Championships in Sweden,” said Ken Read, president of Alpine Canada Alpin. “This significant increase in coverage will help to profile our athletes and our brand as we aim for podium performances at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.”

CBC kicks off the 2006-07 season in Alberta with coverage of the alpine ski World Cup from Lake Louise, Alberta, beginning Nov. 25. In addition to delivering Canadians coverage of this classic World Cup event, CBC will be host broadcaster at Lake Louise, providing coverage of the event to broadcasters around the globe. Other events on CBC this season will include World Cup events in Val d’Isere, France, Kitzbuehel, Austria, and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

The full CBC alpine skiing broadcast schedule for this season will be available in the coming weeks. In addition, beginning in November, CBC Television and CBC Country Canada will air Snowtime, the FIS Alpine World Cup Ski Report, each week, providing the latest news and highlights from around the World Cup circuit.

In addition to comprehensive alpine skiing coverage, all season CBC Sports has coverage of the top international sporting events, including the FIS World Snowboarding Championships, the FIS World Freestyle Skiing Championships and the World Figure Skating Championships presented by BMO Financial Group.

Viewers can log on to CBC.ca/sports 24 hours a day, seven days a week for comprehensive news and results throughout the FIS alpine season.
