TRACIE KRONEBERGER from Team Winter Park finished off the Rocky Central J3 Junior Olympics in dominating style, taking the girls slalom by more than half a second over Nicole Larson of the Buck Hill Ski Team, but it wasn't easy.
Kroneberger won the overall title with three golds and one silver on the week, garnering 95 out of a possible 100 points.
After the first run Kroneberger led by one-hundredth of a second and Larson had a great second run to put all the pressure on Kroneberger. Kroneberger kept the cool head she has shown all week and blazed to the lead in exciting fashion. First-year J3 Madeline Wiltgen from Buck Hill completed the women's SL podium in third place.
The men's race was just as exciting. Dylan Rogers of Ausblick was the leader after the first run. In the second run, the boys were coming down faster and faster. Alex Jerred, seventh after the first run, came down the course with a fast time and not many thought that he could be beaten, but he had given up too much time in the first run to hang onto the lead and ended up third for the day. James Britvar of Ski and Snowboard Club Vail gave up a little time in the second run but was able to hang on to second place. The fast time of the day in both the first and second run for the men was Rogers.
On Saturday evening at the awards banquet, Kroneberger took home a Briko helmet and a long board as the girls JO overall winner. Joanna Coffer of Aspen was second and Lauren Samuels of Team Gilboa, was third overall. Luc Henri Chevalier of Team Summit took home the overall winner awards on the boys side. Cooper Cartmill, an independent racer out of Beaver Creek, was second and Rogers third.
Rocky Central also named its Whistler Cup Team. The following athletes will be going to Whistler Cup from the Rocky/Central Region.
Boys: Luc Henri Chevalier (Team Summit); Cooper Cartmill (Independent), Dylan Rogers (Ausblick).
Girls: Tracie Kroneberger (Team Winter Park), Joanna Coffey (Aspen) and Nicole Larson (Buck Hill).
