French slalom star Clement Noel has reportedly suffered a back injury at the French national team’s summer training camp in Ushuaia, Argentina.

“Clement Noel prematurely returned from Ushuaia due to back pain that prevents him from completing the training camp under optimal conditions,” said the French Ski Federation in a statement on Twitter Monday morning.

Additional specific details about the injury were unavailable at press time.

The French teams have been based at the Cerro Castor resort this month and this is the third injury suffered by a French skier at the camp after women’s slalom skier Nastasia Noens injured her ankle last week and 2017 World Junior super-G gold medalist Nils Alphand suffering a groin injury just days earlier.

According to the French team, Noel’s return to France is a precautionary one and he will spend the remainder of the prep period resting and preparing for the opening slalom of the World Cup season on November 24 in Levi, Finland.

Noel finished second in the 2019 World Cup slalom standings behind the now retired Marcel Hirscher. The Frenchman had three slalom wins last season at Wengen, Kitzbuehel, and at World Cup Finals in Soldeu, Andorra.
