After three days of unseasonably high temperatures reaching up into the seventies, the men’s and women’s NorAm Cup downhill, super G, and giant slalom final races scheduled for this week in Le Massif, Quebec, have been cancelled.

The only races that will take place are the women’s NorAm Cup slalom on Friday (Mar. 23) and the men’s NorAm Cup slalom on Saturday (Mar. 24).

Additionally, the Canadian National Championship super G races will be held for the women on Sunday (Mar. 25) and for the men on Monday (Mar. 26). The weather forecast states that the weather should be cooler and not exceed the forties.

Due to the race cancellation, season-long NorAm titles for downhill, giant slalom, and super combined have been clinched and World Cup starts will be awarded to the top ranked racers.

American Robby Kelley snagged the men’s giant slalom title with 227 points, just four points ahead of Canadian Trevor Philp who took second overall for the season. Canadian teammate Erik Read came in third.

Not only did Read make the top three in giant slalom, but also clinched the men’s NorAm Cup super combined title. Philp remained in second for the super combined standings as well. American Jared Goldberg broke into the top three to place third overall for the season.

After taking the NorAm Cup super G title and becoming a two-time World Junior gold medalist, American Ryan Cochran-Siegle added another title to his accomplishments this season and climbed to the top in the men’s downhill standings. Cochran-Siegle takes the title with a twenty point lead over Canadian Conrad Pridy and forty points ahead of Canadian Dustin Cook.

Saturday’s NorAm Cup slalom will determine this season’s overall slalom leader.
