The alpine events of the University of Denver Invitational began today (Jan. 14) with giant slalom racing at the Winter Park Resort. Utah sprang to an early lead over Colorado, and the University of Alaska Anchorage has settled into third.

Utah’s Nick Cohee was comfortable in the leader’s bib and made it two for two with his second giant slalom victory of the season. Adam Zika of Colorado finished a half second back and New Mexico’s Armin Triendl completed the podium.

Cohee’s assault was flanked by teammate Tii-Maria Romar who bested her second place result in the CU Invite with a convincing win this weekend. Colorado newcomer Shane McLean asserted her place in the RMISA in second while Utah’s Jaime DuPratt provided another slice of bread to the complete the victory sandwich.

Slalom action continues tomorrow (Jan. 15) at Winter Park.
